I Have

I have (fill in the blank). My illness makes it very difficult to work as I am constantly worried what tomorrow may bring. (fill in the blank) has left my physical body in complete disarray where I find it difficult to get out of bed and complete the simplest tasks. People look and treat me different ever since I was diagnosed with (fill in the blank) it is like they do not see me but my illness.

List of potential disorders
(a) mesothiloma
(b) spinal injury
(c) diabetes
(d) mental illness

Put the top three choice in the fill in the blank spots and nobody bats an eye when you tell them that you are not well but put mental illness in there and all of a sudden it is okay to discriminate. Something is not right. Take care

  1. Definitely something not right there.

  2. Wandering Coyote

Yep, that’s the truth – unfortunately.

    You take care, too.

  3. Yes, I am more than my illness!

  4. Anonymous Drifter

That is so true. It’s almost like mental illness isn’t a legitimate illness to have and you have to feel ashamed to have it.

  5. Someday I hope the world takes mental illness as seriously as other illnesses, but we’ve got a long way to go.

I hope this bad spot you’re in right now passes quickly.

  6. Untreatableonline

Yep it would be nice if mental illness was taken in the same light as other health problems. Bradley thanks for the concern but I am actually doing really well. This post is just one of those things that jumped into my head. Take care.

  7. So many people believe that the mentally ill are either to be avoided or they’re untrustworthy or they’re self-indulgent or (fill in the blank). Thinking in terms of stigma is itself an indication of inner distortion – it’s a social sickness that needs study. But I don’t want to be guilty of stigmatizing those folks either. They need some sort of help. Thanks for the post.

  8. It’s somewhat weird at my workplace …

They were actually much more willing to work around my mental illness than whenever I’m physically ill. I was able to take a month off at the drop of the hat because I was depressed and suicidal, but I can’t take even one day off for being any sort of physically ill.

I have really bad stomach/liver issues and sometimes it really bothers me. I get told to take some pepto bismol and come into work whenever I call in and say the pain and queasiness is too bad to work. Like pepto would really cure my liver problems…
